Injured hikers rescued

Two injured hikers were rescued after falling down a steep slope on Lady Slipper Mountain on Saturday afternoon at about 1pm.
According to emergency workers, both hikers were located shortly after the Mountain Club of South Africa got a call for assistance.
Nelson Mandela Bay EMS head and paramedic Ashwell Botha said that due to the rescue involving mountainous terrain, Mountain Rescue volunteers from the club assisted.
The Metro EMS helicopter was also sent to assist with the rescue and airlift the hikers.
Botha said that both incidents were seperate. "The first person fell and hurt her ankle and sometime after that, another person fell."
“On arrival, a second hiker was found lying approximately 3 metres from first person,” he said.
Botha said that it was believed that when the first hiker slipped, he mistakenly knocked the second person causing them both to fall down an embankment.
“Both patients complained of serious pain and were stabilised on the scene. They were then both carried down the mountain by medics, mountain rescue and Emergency Care Practitioners students who are assisting the Metro Emergency Services,” he said.
Both patients have been taken to hospital for treatment.
