The Color Run South Africa is promising less frowning and more clowning at one of Port Elizabeth’s favourite fun runs this weekend.
Sunday’s run will create a number of firsts – each runner will receive a finisher’s medal for the first time and the run will be held for the first time in the Port Elizabeth harbour.
Port manager Rajesh Dana is delighted to host the event.
“The Color Run is aligned with Transnet’s strategy of transforming the Port of Port Elizabeth to a people-centric port and provides us with the opportunity of showcasing our world-class infrastructure,” Dana said.
With the event now in its fifth year, this year’s theme brings the spirit of the carnival to PE’s streets as the runners celebrate health, happiness and community in an atmosphere of pure colour and expression.
The Color Run is the world’s largest untimed running series.
It was founded in 2011, with the mission of bringing people together to make the world a happier, healthier place.
Dubbed the “Happiest 5K on the Planet”, the run is less about your 10-minute-mile, and more about having the time of your life.
It has involved more than six million runners in more than 40 countries.
The run starts at the Port Elizabeth harbour at 10am.
It is not just about a day at the carnival – the Color Run cares about community and this includes a conscious effort to ensure people in the region benefit from the occasion.
The Color Run organisers have perfected the art of the dry clean-up.
They engage with local vendors and employ local labour.
