Chilli Boys want to come in from the cold

Chippa United have not won a match in three consecutive fixtures in the Absa Premiership and coach Eric Tinkler hopes they will turn matters around when they battle Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday (6pm).
Despite an improvement in their performance, Chippa have been struggling to convert their chances into goals.
They are now languishing near the bottom of the log.
“Unfortunately, playing good football does not guarantee you points,” Tinkler said.
“We need to start winning, but I think we deserved a little bit from what we have got in the last few games. Hopefully things will turn to the good.”
The Chilli Boys last tasted victory in October when they beat Free State Stars 1-0.
This was followed by consecutive defeats to Highlands Park, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Tinkler said a win against Chiefs would be a big boost.
“The team is looking good. We have put together a competitive team and obviously we have to collect three points on Saturday against Kaizer Chiefs.
“I think, technically, we have prepared ourselves as well as we possibly can and now we must go out there and do it on the field of play,” he said.
“A win on Saturday is very important to boost the morale and confidence of the team.
“It’s quite [unfortunate that] at the moment we are only playing one game every two weeks and there is another Fifa break coming up. We try to gain that momentum, especially after we have put on a good performance as we did against Sundowns.
“But, now you want to be playing regularly and that unfortunately has not been happening. You have to kick-start everything again.
“Hopefully, we can put on the same performance that we put on against Sundowns and, if we can do that, I think we stand a good chance of getting something out of the game against Chiefs.
“We have toned things down this week. We have had one session a day, dropped the intensity of the session a little bit and we have focused more on the technical side of things.”
