Mayambela sings Tinkler’s praises

Chippa United’s midfield-general Mark Mayambela is confident the club’s new coach, Eric Tinkler, will be able to turn the team’s Absa Premiership fortunes around.
The Chilli Boys have not won any matches so far this season, having recorded two defeats and a draw, and are second from bottom on the PSL log, with only one point to show for it.
There was drama in the Chippa camp last week following the axing of former coach, Dan Malesela, who was almost immediately replaced by former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City mentor, Tinkler.
Chippa play SuperSport United tomorrow night at Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium and will be desperate for a win.
Mayambela said it was not easy parting ways with Malesela as the players were still trying to get to know him.
“But, of course, we are professional enough to adjust and adapt to the situation,” the Chippa skipper said.
“Coach Eric is also a good coach. I have worked with him and I have played against his teams. He is hard-working.
“We had some briefings with him on how he wants us to play and how he will be doing things.
“Everyone in the club is excited and everyone is happy to have him in the team.
“He is a coach who has played the game and who has also won trophies with his previous team.
“I believe that he is going to help us as a team and everyone is looking forward to opening a new chapter with him.”
Mayambela believes Chippa have been making steady progress since their first match against Bloemfontein Celtic.
“We are not getting the results, but the improvement that the team is making is great,” he said.
“We know going to Pretoria is not going to be easy.
“They [SuperSport] are a good side. We watched their game against Chiefs on Sunday [in the MTN 8 semifinal]. They played pretty well.
“But we did find some loopholes in their play in attack and defence.
“We will also try to play our normal game and try to get some points.”
