Madibaz score sweet revenge

Netball team put up solid performance against UWC

The SPAR Madibaz netball side kicked off their Varsity Sports Netball league campaign on a high note by beating the University of Western Cape 61-41 at the Madibaz Indoor Sports Centre in Port Elizabeth on Sunday night.
The hosts were the dominant side throughout the game and gave UWC not much opportunity or space to play.
Madibaz coach Lana Krige said she was happy with her team’s overall performance.
“I am very pleased with the performance of the girls. I thought my players who came back from injury, gave a solid performance,” Krige said.
“My shooters were on song tonight which means the hours and hours that we put in at training has actually paid off.
“The control of the ball when they had it in hand was awesome. There were still one or two balls that went astray, but the rest were controlled and the feeding was great.”
She said the defence was solid and the interplay between the different defenders was encouraging.
After having lost to UWC in the Ussa games earlier this year, Krige said the win on Sunday was even sweeter.
She said the victory would also be a motivational boost for her side going into Monday’s match against Vaal University of Technology (6pm).
“This has been a good start. We need to win at least four games to be able to get into the semifinals and that is our plan for this season.
“My players are up for the VUT game. Our fitness levels are phenomenal. We have had fantastic people working with the team this year,” Krige said.
