Westering hosts new T20 tourney

Westering Primary School will host their inaugural eight-team U13 T20 cricket tournament at the school tomorrow and on Saturday. Sunridge, Summerwood, Clarendon, St Dominic’s Priory, Harvest Christian School, Lorraine and Herbert Hurd will join the hosts in the draw. All teams will play three matches, one tomorrow afternoon and two on Saturday. The tournament will run as a knockout competition, consisting of bowl and cup sections. The sides start off in the cup tomorrow afternoon with the winners of each quarterfinal continuing in the cup section and the losers going on to contest the bowl section on Saturday. The tournament is aimed at providing teams with the opportunity to prepare for their upcoming league and fill the gap between the winter and summer season. “We feel that a tournament of this nature will go a long way to the development of the young cricketers within our province , ” Westering U13A coach and organiser Bradley Holtzhausen said. “We appreciate the support of our visiting teams and look forward to competitive cricket played in a good spirit. “Most importantly, we hope the boys will have fun and make sure to build on new friendships.” Tomorrow's fixtures are: Cup quarterfinals, 2pm: Westering v Lorraine, Herbert Hurd v Summerwood, Clarendon v Sunridge, Priory v Har vest Matches start at 9am on Saturday.
