Tuks women thump NMMU

The University of Pretoria’s netball women thumped NMMU Madibaz 64-39 in Pretoria on Monday night to maintain their great winning streak. It was an energetic start for both sides as they went tit for tat in the opening exchanges. An enthusiastic Tuks crowd turned up to support the Pretoria women, who did not disappoint and looked like a team in superb form. Both teams were relatively good at capitalising on their centre passes and it was a relatively close opening half, with the University of Pretoria leading 26-20. In the third quarter, newcomer Chantelle Swart came in to replaced goal attacker Ine-Marie Venter. Swart and Melissa Kotze seemed to be combining well as crucial intercepts by Shongile Hlungwane enabled the University of Pretoria to pull further ahead. With a great effort in the thirdquarter power play, the Tuks women displayed the skill that has seen them unbeaten throughout the tournament and they pulled ahead by more than 10 points. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University side did, however, remain positive as things were combining well between Nolinsidiso Twani and Bianca Blom in the shooting circle. In the final quarter, Tuks dominated the opposition and used the final power play to their advantage.
