Outgoing EP Rugby president talks about the highs and lows during his time with the union

As he prepares to leave office for the final time, a scarred EP Rugby president Cheeky Watson has reflected on how things went horribly wrong during his time in the hot seat.

Watson, who says he has had enough and will vacate his office shortly, will leave behind a liquidated union which is under SA Rugby administration and struggling to get back on its feet.

Always controversial, Watson has been lambasted from all quarters and held responsible for the demise of the union, which struggled to get a team together to play in the Currie Cup Premier Division.

There is also a strong view that the main reason the Kings were unable to land a major sponsor was that companies did not want to get involved while Watson was in still charge of the union.

After refusing to comment on the dire situation at the union for several months, Watson has finally broken his silence on the turmoil that surfaced in recent months.

Last Saturday Watson and his executive narrowly survived a vote of no confidence, but they remained powerless figures, with SA Rugby still making all decisions at the cash-strapped union, which is under administration.
