Former Warriors skipper quits after frustrating run of injuries

FORMER Chevrolet Warriors captain Davy Jacobs dropped a bombshell yesterday when he announced his retirement from cricket with immediate effect.

Jacobs said a spate of injuries over recent seasons had forced him into making a decision many may consider premature.

The 32-year-old is at an age when most batsmen are in the prime of their careers. But it seems the constant disappointment of being injured and daily prodding at the hands of physiotherapists have finally taken their toll on his body and mind.

His list of surgeries includes hip, ankle, shoulder and wrist (twice) operations. His latest run-in with the surgeon’s knife was a thumb operation before the start of the season.

“It’s an emotional thing for me. I knew this in August last year. I just feel that after the ankle op in March and then the thumb happened, and I had to miss another season, I just knew that this would probably be my last season,” Jacobs said yesterday.
