Triathlete Liza Kingston reigns supreme

PORT Elizabeth triathlete Liza Kingston claimed her fourth consecutive About IT Triathlon Summer Series overall title at the weekend when she won the Port St Francis leg of the event, having led from start to finish.

Kingston has dominated the annual December three-race series since 2010, having won all but one of the last 12 series races.

She won the weekend's finale in a fast one hour 18 minutes from Jade Hooke, now based in the United Kingdom, and fellow Port Elizabeth competitor Sally Waterworth.

Australian-based and fellow 32GI sponsored teammate Natalie Britz took fourth place.

The traditional Boxing Day triathlon at Port St Francis attracted nearly 250 participants from around the country in a sprint distance triathlon between the scenic St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis.

SA elite triathlete Clinton Gravett, of East London, claimed his second win of the series in the men's section in a time of one hour and five minutes from fellow Border triathlete Nathan le Roux with Jeffreys Bay's Paul du Plessis taking the bronze placing.

The strong Isuzu team comprising former SA swimmer and surf lifesaver Kevin Richards, world Ironman age group champion Alec Riddle and his equally talented son, Jamie, comfortably won the team category in a time of one hour and five minutes.

Pamela Bowren, of St Francis, teamed up with Tony and Charles Butler to take second place in the team category just ahead of the Billson trio of Carmel, Natalie and dad Patrick.

Gravett claimed the overall senior age-group title from Gawie Henning and Michael Kingston while Le Roux, for the second year running, won the junior overall title from Keegan Cooke and Munro Ferreira.

In the women's overall division, Kingston won from Hooke with Amore Strauss taking third place while Shannon Bradford won the junior overall title.
