THE Eastern Province under-13 girls team, known as the Dolphins, added to the region's success in junior hockey over the last couple of weeks by winning the South Regional tournament in East London.

The girls, under the guidance of coach Suanne Brown and manager June Plaatjies, performed with determination and tenacity to bring home the gold medal after edging WP Southerns 1-0 in the tournament final.

The teams participated in two sections. Pool A included EP Dolphins, WP Helderberg, Amathole, Boland Pinotage and WP Southerns, while Pool B featured WP Durbell, EP Elephants, Boland Shiraz, Boland Barlinkas, Buffalo Flats Invitation and South Western Districts.

After round-robin matches and cross-pool play-offs, the EP Dolphins and WP Southerns were awarded places in the final.

Western Province Durbell finished third.
