Everyone wins in Bluewater Bay road 'race'

A RUN with a difference will take place in Bluewater Bay tomorrow. Now in its 10th year, the Running of the Bulls***ters started in the United States 14 years ago.

Pablo Padia longed for the thrills of the world famous Running with the Bulls in Pamplona and decided to have a fun event in San Francisco, running from pub to pub while being chased by people dressed as bulls. Hence, the "Running of the Bulls***ters" was born and spread to other America cities.

Bluewater Bay Roadrunners became aware of this event and the first running took place in 2004.

"We don't call the 6km event a race because if it is there will have to be a winner," event organiser Leon Kilian said. "Ours is a fun event where everyone is a winner."

The inaugural event was such a success that it has been held every year as close to July 7 to 14 as possible to coincide with the Pamplona event which starts at 7am on the 7th day of the 7th month each year.

The local run starts and ends at the Scout Hall in Bluewater Bay and follows a circular route along the Swartkops River and Bluewater Bay Beach.

Four bulls and a matador will be in attendance to ensure runners and walkers work up a thirst and do not get lost. Prizes are awarded to the best-dressed participants and dress for the occasion is red and white.
