St Andrew's pile on points against Muir

A PHYSICALLY dominant St Andrew's outfit ran rampant on their home field to beat Muir College 69-10 in their schools rugby fixture in Grahamstown at the weekend.
In Port Elizabeth, Ithembelihle produced a spirited second-half performance in a 50-7 defeat to Grey High, while Despatch were too strong for Woodridge at Woodridge, powering to a 71-0 win.
In Grahamstown, St Andrew's led 20-3 at the break after Muir had proved competitive for the first 15 minutes of the game.
However, the greater power of the St Andrew's team saw them run in three unanswered tries through Peter Kroon (2) and Grant Dixie.
Muir fullback Ruben de Vos opened their account with a penalty.
The second half saw St Andrew's increase their intensity, disrupting Muir's structures and crossing for several tries to ensure the victory.
The seven second-half tries came from Kroon, Courtney Archer, Hugo de la Fargue, Robert Ball, Xolile Mdlokovana, Brendan Owen and Anthony Dakin.
In the closing stages of the game, Muir were eventually able to cross the line for a consolation try by centre Mihlali Nobomvu, converted by flyhalf Abongile Sonjica. Muir forwards Gary Karlin, Lungile Sonwabo and Mzi Goba worked hard until the final whistle, being well supported by backs Lunathi Nxele, Nobomvu and Xolela Daniels.
Grey v Ithembe
GREY High ran in eight tries to Ithembelihle's one for a comfortable 50-7 victory in their annual clash at Grey on Saturday.
Grey's passing and handling skills and superb support play proved the difference between the sides.
However, this was no walkover. Ithembe ran strongly on numerous occasions, with No8 Siya Charlie having a fine game. Lock Athenkosi Faku and fullback Simamkele Mcwabeni were also impressive.
Centre Smondile Tyson scored a well-deserved try, which was converted by wing Ayabonga Mteto.
It was a gutsy performance by the visitors who showed great character and fought until the final whistle.
Grey's tries were scored by fullback Curwin Bosch (2), wing Tristan Jonas (2), loose forwards Liam Blake-Taylor and Matthew Lawson, scrumhalf Brody van Goeverden and substitute centre Richard Bryant.
Bosch landed three conversions, while flyhalf Garrick Mattheus and his replacement, Stanley Davenport, added one conversion each.
For Grey, Bosch, Blake-Taylor, Lawson and Keanu Vers all had outstanding games.
Craven Week
THE EP Craven Week wrapped up their match preparations for the annual schools tournament next month with a fine 29-6 win over the EP Country Districts side at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at the weekend.
This follows wins in a series of friendlies against Western Province and Boland in Oudtshoorn.
EP coach Louis Gerber said he was happy with the results and the team would now have a training camp to finalise their preparations.
The Craven Week will be played in Middelburg, Gauteng, from July 14-19.
