Gill run rings around disappointing DF side

GILL College put on a scintillating display of running rugby to defeat DF Malherbe 57-0 in their schools' rugby match in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Gill ran with purpose and their superb passing, handling and support play resulted in them producing thrilling rugby throughout the game.

Right wing Roben Sammy used his speed to great effect to score three tries, all of which were scored from 50m out. He often appeared to be boxed in, but his devastating sidestep took care of the defenders. Centre Wouter Viljoen also had a good game and added a try to the Gill scoring.

Gill dotted down nine tries in all, with the remaining tries coming from fullback Karel Kruger, scrumhalf Llewellyn Saayman, flank Evert Joubert, prop Moses Jacobs and flyhalf Wian Greeff, who landed six conversions.

It was disappointing to see the apparent tame surrender of the home side. However, left wing Yongamela Swartbooi showed some guts on occasions against the overwhelming Gill onslaught.
