Top seeds secure easy wins

TOP seeds NMMU A and Aryan A registered easy wins against Callies A and NMMU B respectively in the Nelson Mandela Bay table tennis premier league this week.

Although Dipal Bhana and Kurt Adams (NMMUA) lost their doubles match against Robert Kuscus and Dion Muller 11-13 11-9 11-9, they performed strongly in the singles, winning all their matches for an 8-3 result.

Rajesh Bhana, Michael de Kock and Ridaa Hendricks (Aryan A) were in top form as they won all the ties against NMMU B, making the final score 11-0.

In a closer contest, Aryan B edged Booysens Pride 7-4. The rivalry between these two teams was evident from the start and the contests could have gone either way.

Shahied Mamoojee sealed it for Aryan B when he edged Vernal Higgins 11-8 12-14 11-9.

In the first league, the excitement was produced by the encounter between NMMUC and Callies B, which NMMU won 6-5.

Despite Sureshan Norman (Callies B) winning all his matches, NMMU C showed they are a force to reckon with.

In another close game, NMMU D found Livvie Alumni A just too strong, going down 6-5.

Aryan C, with Zeenal Bhana, Mike Vaghmaria and Claud Lawack in fine form, had an easy 10-1 victory over NMMU E.

In the remaining match, Clifford Bouwer, Julian Horne and Ruben Horne took Despatch to an 11-0 win over Livvie Alumni B.

ýLast weekend, the Nelson Mandela Bay veterans trials were held at the Malabar Community Centre.

The teams to represent the region in the provincial finals at the same venue tomorrow (9am) are:

Over-40: Michael de Kock, Nceba Ngcingwane, Shahied Mamoojee, Selvan Sammy

Over-50: Rajesh Bhana, Robert Kuscus, Monde Cola, Shahied Abrahams

Over-60: Thiagasen Pather, Mike Vaghmaria, Clifford Bouwer, Anton Human
