Win key to Highbury's title hopes

IN-FORM soccer side Highbury believe they have what it takes to defeat neighbours Jeffreys Bay Milan when they meet in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe league at the Gelvandale Stadium today (7pm).

Second-placed Highbury are level on 60 points with logleaders Angavu Stars, but the Queenstown side lead on goal difference. With only five league games remaining before the end of the season, Highbury are hoping to beat the struggling Milan with a big score to claim the top position.

Highbury coach Garth Dickinson said his side were fully focused on their campaign.

"Our mandate is to win the league title and the players are aware of what is at stake here," Dickinson said. "The title race has hotted up and this is a crucial stage for the teams to collect as many points as possible, but we are not going to put pressure on our players," he said. "They know what is expected of them."

Another Port Elizabeth outfit, Real City, will host FC Buffalo at the NU2 Stadium tomorrow (5pm). The Motherwell side will be hoping to continue their winning streak after defeating Jeffreys Bay Milan 2-1 last week.

City coach Bonke Namba said the team played well against Milan and expected another good result against Buffalo. "Our aim is to finish the league season inside the top eight, but consistency is still needed to realise that dream. The players are confident and the result of the previous match has brought some relief."
