Uitenhage in 50-year celebration

UITENHAGE High will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend with a sports festival, getting under way today at 1pm.

The school's organisers have lined up a series of sports to mark the occasion, being played today and tomorrow, while a carnival with a variety of stalls will be in operation tomorrow.

The sports being played are rugby, soccer, netball and volleyball.

The rugby competition will be played in two groups, with the Uitenhage group starting their matches today. This group will play two matches, with normal points to determine the best two for the semifinals.

The second group will comprise teams from outside Uitenhage, who were originally scheduled to play tomorrow only.

However, Humansdorp have requested that they only want to play today because of the long weekend and so they will meet Spandau, with Spandau going into tomorrow's semifinals against the winners of Mary Waters versus Bertram.

Four schools have been invited to play in the volleyball tournament – Uitenhage, Woolhope, Arcadia and Zanolwazi (Saturday only).

Matches will be played outdoors at the Rosedale field, weather permitting. If there is problem, the games will be moved to the Rosedale Recreation Hall.
