Judo squad ready for tournament

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) will assemble a strong martial arts team that will represent it at the 19th edition of the University Sport South Africa (Ussa) judo tournament that will be held at the Missionvale Campus, starting tomorrow.

The two-day long event is expected attract participants from four other national tertiary institutions, the University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, Pretoria University, Stellenbosch University and Witwatersrand University.

The Madibaz, as the NMMU are affectionally known in sporting circles, will be represented by 18 participants in various weight divisions.

Madibaz judo manager Bernard Petersen said the USSA Judo Championships event would be hosted in Port Elizabeth for the second time after it was held in the city in 2010.
