Progress run riot over Winter Rose

A RUTHLESS Progress showed Winter Rose no mercy, running in eight tries to humiliate them 53-3 for their third consecutive victory in the Eastern Cape Super 12 club rugby competition in Uitenhage at the weekend.

Progress led 14-0 at halftime.

The Uitenhage club got into top gear, scoring try after try as they made sure the East London outfit went back home with their tails between their legs.

And, at the Adcock Stadium, Harlequins edged Caltex Crusaders 16-11.

Quins started the game well, leading 8-3 at the break.

Saders managed to edge ahead and led 11-8 for most of the second half, but as in last week's game against Progress, Saders failed to finish off, missing five kickable penalties.

Quins, after drawing level at 11-11, crossed for a try to claim the points. In Group A, Gardens beat African Bombers 27-17 in Rosedale to make it three wins in as many matches

Kruisfontein embarrassed Cambridge 49-23 in their backyard. Cambridge started like a house on fire, but once Kruisfontein figured out the East Londoners' style of play, the Humansdorp side did not allow their hosts to determine the pace.
