Surf's up at Seal Point

LEADING surfers from around the country will be in Cape St Francis when the final event in the Billabong Junior Series takes place at Seal Point from tomorrow till Monday.


The competitors will be vying for their respective series titles as well as several specialty awards.


The series has R750000 in prize- money and it is the premier junior surfing series in the country.


The under-12 boys' division has been all about Max Elkington from Hout Bay, who has won all three of the events and holds a convincing lead. Angelo Faulkner (Jeffreys Bay) and Saxton Randall (Durban) have also posted good results.


In the U14 boys, Adin Masencamp (Strand) has been dominating, with Ethan Fletcher (Kommetjie) and Jose Faulkner (J-Bay) posting good results along the way.


There is a close battle in the U14 girls' section, with Kai Woolf (J-Bay) enjoying a slight lead over second-placed Sophie Bell (Durban). Olivia Izzard (La Lucia), in third place, is still within striking distance of the leaders.


Jordan Maree (Kalk Bay) has a solid lead in the U16 boys, ahead of Tim Baard (J-Bay) and Durban surfer Ntando Msibi.


Chanelle Botha (Warner Beach) is leading the charge in the U18 girls' division, with three contest victories under her belt. Gina Smith and Tahra Uren, both from Jeffreys Bay, are tussling it out for second spot. The U18 boys' division is a two-horse race, with little separating Max Armstrong (Scarborough) and Josh Smit (Durban).


Bluff surfer Heidi Palmboom has a convincing lead in the U20 girls, but Emma Smith (J-Bay) is hot on her heels and Chanelle Botha is lying third.


Mikey February is in front in the premier U20 division, with Mikey Venter lying second and Jarred Veldhuis third.
