Nyongo wins Human Race by a second

IN A dash to the tape, Mkhuseli Nyongo (Absa NMMU) beat Melikhaya Frans (Nedbank AC) by just one second to win the 10km Human Race, which started and ended at the Cillie High School in Sydenham on Saturday. Nyongo finished in 28:25.


To accommodate the 4.2km mini marathon, organisers had to adjust the course, reducing it by about 500m. More than 1500 runners took part in both events.


In a tight finish for third place Sandile Ngunuza (Nedbank) beat Tom Lusaseni (Itheko) by seven seconds. Ngunuza finished in 29:05.


In the women's category Ntombesintu Mfunzi (Bonitas) was once again unchallenged, beating Dutch visitor Saskia de Vries by more than three minutes. Her finishing time was 34:25. Jene Banfield was a further two minutes behind in 38:03.


Ntandazo Mngceke (Bonitas) easily won the junior men's category from Thobela Dubela (Motherwell) in 34:25.


Taskeen Reit (VW) won the junior women's category in 1:09:00.




THE Hobie Beach Parkrun, which was launched last month, is growing in popularity and excellent weather conditions on Saturday saw 289 runners taking part.


This week Keagan Scott, a promising young triathlete, was first home over 5km, followed by well-known senior athlete Mike Bosch. Claire van der Nest was the first woman home.
