Paul eyes gold in Montreal

LEADING Port Elizabeth swimmer Kevin Paul will be using South Africa's success in Barcelona as his source of inspiration when he competes in the International Paralympic Committee World Championships, starting in Montreal, Canada, on Monday.

Paul, who won Paralympics gold in Beijing in 2008 and silver in London last year, left PE yesterday, saying he was delighted at how well the SA team had done in Barcelona.

Spearheaded by world stars Chad le Clos and Cameron van der Burgh, SA picked up five medals – three golds, one silver and a bronze.

"They guys proved they are up there with the best and if that doesn't inspire you to do well, I don't know what will," Paul said.

"It was great to see your friends doing so well and now we want to do that, too."

Paul singled out SA swimmer Giulio Zorzi, largely unknown before last week, who took bronze in the 50m breaststroke, where Van der Burgh claimed gold.
