Shoddy news coverage on TV channel

IMAGINE my surprise when I switched on the SABC 24-hour channel (DSTV 404) on Sunday at 11pm to watch Your World, only to hear the news presenter telling viewers that President Jacob Zuma was expected to announce his new cabinet soon and speculating about its composition. This came shortly after the channel had just been bragging about the programme and its news coverage, and the fact that Zuma had announced his new cabinet members more than four hours earlier, which had been reported on the SABC's 7pm news broadcast.

This type of shoddy news coverage does not give the public much confidence in the SABC, which describes itself as "Africa's news leader", and tells TV viewers and radio listeners how wonderful it is.

By the way, The Herald's front page lead story on May 19, written by Mkhululi Ndamase, reported that former DA parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko had "resigned from the party last week". In fact, she had only resigned as parliamentary leader.

I carefully looked through the next day's copy of the newspaper to see if there was a "Matter of fact" report correcting the mistake, but so far have seen nothing about it.
