ANC at odds over opening of offices

The Nelson Mandela Bay ANC regional headquarters will be opened before January 7.
This is according to the party’s regional task team co-ordinator Babalwa Lobishe.
The party’s regional headquarters, Florence Matomela House in Govan Mbeki Avenue, has been closed for more than a month.
However, ANC branch member Unathi Skade said the headquarters would stay shut until President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed them.
“We want the president to come to Nelson Mandela Bay and explain to us what exactly is wrong here.
“Florence Matomela House stays closed and we’re watching it closely,” Skade said.
The headquarters were closed after protests by some ANC branch leaders who refused to accept the disbandment of the regional executive committee in October by the party’s provincial executive committee.
The regional committee was disbanded after it failed to implement decisions taken by the executive committee, such as the removal of ANC councillor Andile Lungisa as a member of the mayoral committee in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Lobishe said task team members were speaking to branches leaders to get all specific issues ironed out.
“We’re on Christmas break right now so ordinarily our offices would be closed around this time.”
Lobishe said talks were ongoing and provincial ANC bosses had already addressed branch leaders.
Several branch leaders and party members in the city refused to allow the interim structure, led by Nceba Faku, to function from Florence Matomela House.
