Jonathan Lawack removed after DA councillor Mbulelo Manyati abstains

Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip could be removed from office by the end of Monday as one of the DA councillors Mbulelo Manyati has turned on the party.
Manyati, who helped the opposition parties oust speaker Jonathan Lawack after he abstained from voting against the motion of no confidence, said he would not vote with the DA in any of the motions.
Some of the other motions on the agenda today include the removal of Trollip and chief whip Werner Senekal.
Manyati said he was planning to leave the DA due to the “ill treatment of black councillors”.
With Manyati’s support, the numbers are now tipped in the opposition’s favour.
At about midday on Monday, the DA and its coalition partners COPE, ACDP and Patriotic Alliance went off into a crisis caucus meeting.
The council meeting will resume at 2pm.
