WATCH | Gas explosion at Istanbul Kebab & Shawarma restaurant in Rivonia leaves eight injured

A serious fire left eight people injured and nine shops damaged in Rivonia, Sandton, on Saturday. 

It has been reported the fire started after a gas explosion at the Istanbul Kebab & Shawarma restaurant.

The owner and manager reportedly suffered injuries after helping staff members to escape from the kitchen. 

One critically injured person had to be airlifted to hospital.
