The township residents are up in arms over municipal service delivery in the area.

Police spokesperson Captain André Beetge said the Old Missionvale Road in Westville was closed off.

The road joins the Uitenhage and Old Uitenhage roads in the township.

According to Beetge, the bus and bakkie were torched at about 7am by the protesters.

“The vehicles are completely gutted,” he said.

“Due to the road closure, motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Sporadic stone-throwing at nearby vehicles and the police has also been taking place,” Beetge added.

The Public Order Police are on the scene of the protest.

This is a developing story.
