Brenda Wardle case delayed again

Alleged fraudster and former legal commentator Brenda Wardle had her criminal case in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court postponed once again on Monday.
The postponement came after the court heard that Wardle was still awaiting the outcome of her application to the Supreme Court of Appeal for leave to appeal against a previous decision to deny her bail.
Wardle, 56, told magistrate Lionel Lindoor she was waiting for the outcome of two applications, the other being at the Port Elizabeth High Court regarding a civil matter against justice and correctional services minister Michael Masutha.
Since her arrest in East London in 2016, Wardle has been in and out of the courts with various applications and the civil matter, over what she alleged were “deplorable conditions” at the North End prison where she has been in custody.
Wardle is facing fraud charges after she allegedly told an Eastern Cape family she would be able to get their relative, serving a sentence for murder, paroled early.
Wardle allegedly swindled the family out of R500,000.
On Monday, Wardle told Lindoor that she intended to bring a further application for bail based on new facts pending the outcome of her application to the SCA.
Lindoor postponed the matter to April 17.
