Pilot forced to make emergency landing on beach

A light aircraft pilot had to make an emergency landing on the beach between Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay on Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the four-seater plane, a Jabiru, allegedly experienced engine problems while headed for Plettenberg Bay at 2.30pm.
The pilot made an emergency landing on the beach about 11km west of the Van Stadens River mouth.
“Police and emergency services responded to the scene. After locating the plane on the beach, it was established that neither the pilot or nor passenger were injured. They were a husband and wife couple,” Swart said.
“The plane was the towed to the mouth where it was removed from the beach.”
The Civial Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Kabelo Ledwaba said they were aware of the incident and that an investigation was underway
