Four nabbed for drug possession

Four people were arrested in separate drug related cases in Port Elizabeth over the past 24 hours.
Of the four arrests, one took place in the Northern Areas, one in Sydenham and the other two in the Joe Slovo informal settlement.
Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said the latest bust happened at about 1:45am on Wednesday when police raided a house in Nolumanyano Street in Joe Slovo informal settlement.
“A 26-years-old woman was arrested inside the house after police found 51 dagga cigarettes and 27 small packets of dagga.
“Information attained on the scene then led police to another house in Nciwa Street in the same area.
“A 41-year-old man was arrested for dealing in dagga after 75 small packets of dagga were found inside the house,” he said.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla said a 36-year-old was arrested in another raid at a house in Stimela Street, Korsten, at about 7:30pm on Tuesday.
“Information on drugs being kept at a house in Korsten was attained and police went to the house.
“A search found 13 mandrax tablets and about 30 dagga cigarettes. The occupant of the house was detained,” she said.
About an hour prior to that bust, a 34-year-old was arrested after police shot out his car tyre when he allegedly tried to drive over two officials while pointing a toy gun out of the vehicle’s window.
The incident happened in Voyle Road, Sydenham following a tip-off to police of a drug deal going down.
Naidu said police pulled up behind a silver VW Polo believed to be selling drugs. The driver sped off, leading to a car chase, before police forced him to stop.
The driver then allegedly tried to drive into the officials, who shot out one of the tyres.
Naidu said a small amount of cocaine and tik were found in the car. All four accused are due to appear in the respective magistrates courts on Wednesday and Thursday.
