Clinton Larsen is the man Chippa United are trusting to save the club's Absa Premiership status and as importantly help the club regain its respect in the league.
The Port Elizabeth based professional soccer club on Wednesday fired coach Joel Masutha and replaced him with former Bafana Bafana player Larsen, who parted ways with Golden Arrows in late December.
Larsen comes in at a time were the Chilli Boys are in a critical condition and a serious intervention is needed to help lift the team away from the relegation zone.
Tuesday’s night 4-2 loss to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates saw Chippa extended their winless run to 10 league matches, with their last victory dating back to October last year.
Chippa are lying second from the bottom of the log with 12 points from 17 games.
Speaking on the Marawa Sport Worldwide Sport radio show, Larsen said; “Its not an easy assignment, especially after 17 games, but it's a challenge I am looking forward to.
“The one thing that I do is I back myself. My record speaks for itself,” the coach said.
Chippa is Larsen’s fifth PSL club as coach since starting in 2010.
“I am not somebody who jumps from club to club. If I am there, it is for the long run.
His first assignment at Chippa will be against his former team Maritzburg United and it is a must-win encounter at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, next Saturday.
"Yes, I do believe too that the next game has got to be a victory. Getting to 15 points is going to be a huge lift for the team.
"Yes, there will be emotions. There always are when you are up against your previous teams, but you have a job to do. I am past revenge tactics and spite,” he said.
The coach said he was looking at adding one more striker to the two that he currently has at Chippa.
Larsen becomes the Chilli Boys fifth coach of the season which has only passed its halfway stage.
Vladislav Heric was appointed ahead of the start of the campaign but was fired without taking charge of a game. He was replaced by Dan Malesela, who gave way to Eric Tinkler. Masutha took over from Tinkler in early December and was only in charge as an interim coach for five games, none of which he managed to win.
