Nine held in gang, drugs clampdown

Nine people were arrested over a 12-hour period in a series of drug-related arrests as part of a gang-related clampdown operation in the Bay.
Most of the busts took place in the Mount Road policing cluster between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
The National Intervention Unit was brought in from outside the Bay to assist.
“In one of the arrests on Tuesday, a woman aged 35 was held at a house in Bosman Street after at least 30 mandrax tablets, tik and Stilpain tablets were found in her possession.
“She was arrested and is charged with possession of and dealing in drugs,” Naidu said.
All the other arrests were also for fairly small quantities of drugs, mostly tik and cocaine.
The arrests all took place in known gang hotspot areas.
All nine were due to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and Thursday.
