Hijacked meat delivery truck recovered - minus the meat

Several boxes of meat were stolen within 15 minutes of the hijacking

A gang of robbers managed to steal several boxes of meat from a hijacked refrigerated delivery truck within 15 minutes.
The truck, belonging to Henen's Meat Market in North End, was hijacked while doing a drop-off at Shoprite in Daku Road, Kwazakhele on Tuesday morning.
The 69-year-old driver was forced to abandon the truck when three gunmen ambushed him at about 11am.
Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said the driver was parked at the loading section behind the store when the gunmen approached him.
“At that stage he was alone in the vehicle as his assistant was inside dealing with the delivery notes. The gunmen forced him out of the truck and were joined by another three men,” he said.
“They then drove off with the truck.”
By 11:15am the truck was recovered abandoned in Seyisi Street, New Brighton.
“The truck was emptied and several boxes of meat stolen during the incident,” he said.
Beetge said the value of the stock was not known at this stage.
A case of hijacking and theft is under investigation.
