Port Elizabeth's Provincial Hospital to get new lifts

A R2.8m tender has been awarded for the replacement of two lifts at Port Elizabeth’s Provincial Hospital.
Health spokesperson Lwandile Sicwetsha said provision had been made for the lifts in the current financial year.
“The lifts have been ordered from the supplier and installation will resume as soon as the equipment arrives,” he said.
“The tender has been awarded to a qualifying bidder at a cost of R2.8m.”
Earlier in 2018, patients had to climb up to seven flights of stairs for more than a week to get to their doctors after the only remaining lift in M-block at the hospital broke down.
The other lift in M-block was condemned some time ago and is one of those that will be replaced under the new tender.
A second lift, provided for in the tender, will be installed in the hospital’s P-block.
