Girl, 11, injured in gang shooting

An 11-year-old girl was injured during a suspected gang shooting at the weekend.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the girl was struck by a stray bullet while walking with a friend down Fitchard Street in Gelvandale at about 1.15pm on Sunday.
“As they neared the corner of Kobus Road, a grey VW Polo drove down the street and the occupants of the VW Polo started shooting at a group of males standing at the corner. The victim and her friend started running when a bullet struck her on her buttocks,” Naidu said.
“The vehicle sped off. The suspects are unknown. The community is urged not to protect these criminals who have no respect or regard for human life.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit’s Lieutenant-Colonel Mike Grobler on 082 442 1825 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
