Teenager shot in suspected gang shooting

A teenager was shot dead in a suspected gang-related incident at the weekend.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Ezra Murphy, 17, was walking with to friends towards a shop at the Stanford Road and Fitchard Street intersection at about 1.40pm on Saturday when the incident occurred.
“Murphy’s two friends entered the shop while he remained outside. As the witnesses walked out of the shop, they noticed two suspects - one of them armed - alighting from a taxi, shooting at them. The witnesses ran back into the shop,” Naidu said.
“When the shooting stopped, they found Murphy lying outside with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The suspect ran away on foot. It is alleged that the victims are from the Room Rats gang and the suspect is from the New Kids gang.”
Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
