Two people robbed hours apart in separate house robberies

Two people were robbed in two separate house robberies in Port Elizabeth.
The latest attack happened shortly before 1am on Thursday in the Jananda Villas complex in Glenmore Road,  Miramar.
Port Elizabeth police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwyn Labans said  a 71-year-old woman was sleeping in her bedroom when she heard noises in the house.
“The woman went to call the police but was confronted by two men with pangas inside the house. They forced her to lie on the ground and demanded money,” he said.
“They stole her cellphone, jewellery and money before fleeing.”
Labans said the men gained entry through a sliding door.
In another incident shortly before midnight, a 28-year-old man was robbed in Fitchardt Road, Helenvale.
“He heard noises outside his house. When he opened the door, five men confronted him. He was held at gunpoint and forced back into the house,” Labans said.
“The men then stole the television, a jacket and cellphone.”
The victims were not harmed.
Two cases of house robbery are being investigated.
