Restaurant offers meals on the house
Exactly one year to the day of the devastating fires that ravaged Knysna and Brenton-on-Sea, a local restaurant will commemorate the event by opening its doors to the public to enjoy a meal on the house.
The owner of the Nautical South Restaurant, known as Vlooi, said she would offer the meals to residents and firefighters as a way to give back to the community.
The day the fires reached Brenton-on-Sea, Vlooi was in Knysna.“We weren’t allowed back until 6am the next day,” she said.
“It was a devastating scene. Everything was burned to the ground except my business.”
For three weeks Vlooi and her staff worked day in and day out, making food for those who had lost everything and the firefighters.
“We lost 51 homes, so I will be preparing 51 different dishes that I will serve free of charge [between noon and 6pm],” she said.
