Doctor suspended for ‘pestering’ medical rep

A doctor who allegedly pestered a medical rep at a local hospital has been suspended by the facility’s management.
The doctor is a specialist at the hospital, according to sources.
Eastern Cape health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo declined to give details of the incident that led to the doctor being suspended from Livingstone Hospital.
No criminal case has been opened.
A disciplinary hearing was in process against the doctor and would be submitted for closing arguments by the end of this month, Kupelo said.Hospital chief executive Thulane Mandonsela said the hospital would report the matter to the Health Professions Council of South Africa once the disciplinary hearing had been finalised.
“No patients were involved in the incident,” he said.
“The complainant is an employee of one of the departmental service providers.”
In an answer to written questions on April 23, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the doctor from Livingstone was the only doctor serving a suspension in the Eastern Cape.
Motsoaledi said there were two doctors at Weskoppies Hospital and Yusuf Dadoo Hospital in Gauteng, and another at Witbank Hospital in Mpumalanga, who had also been suspended for sexual harassment.
Three doctors were suspended from state hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal but these suspensions were for insubordination and endangering the life of a patient.ALSO READ
