Drive-by shooting victims identified

Two men shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Gelvandale on Thursday night have been identified.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the two men, Hillerion Jacobs and Dane Oosthuizen, both 27, were killed in what is believed to have been an orchestrated shooting.

The two were allegedly Upstand Dogs gang members.

Naidu said they were driving home from a party at a Sanctor school when they were ambushed at about 8pm.

“They were turning into Gail Road from Stanford Road when another vehicle overtook them at the corner. As the car pulled alongside them, the gunmen opened fire outside the car window,” she said.

“Some of the bullet wounds were at close range suggesting that the shooters stopped and went back to the car where the men were shot again. Both died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.”

Naidu said while the motive was unknown, police believed the shooting was related to ongoing gang turf and drug wars in the area.

The gang unit is investigating two cases of murder.
