PE doctor attacked while cycling

A 65-year-old Port Elizabeth doctor was attacked by a man with a screwdriver while he was cycling in Overbaakens near Walmer Downs this afternoon.

According to police information, as the cyclist was about to pass the suspect he pulled out a screwdriver and attempted to stab the cyclist. The cyclist swerved, lost control and fell.

The suspect, said to be about 20-35 years-old, demanded the cyclist’s cell phone and started kicking him.

As the suspect grabbed the bicycle, the cyclist managed to pepper spray him several times however the suspect still made off with his bicycle.

The cyclist sustained injuries to his face.

A case of robbery was opened at the Walmer police station.
