Committee members visit housing projects

To address housing issues in Nelson Mandela Bay, members of the housing portfolio committee went on an oversight visit yesterday to projects being worked on by the Housing Development Agency (HDA).

In a week’s time, the agency will present a report to the committee about the state of houses in the metro.

The Bay’s political head of human settlements, Nqaba Bhanga, joined by portfolio committee members and HDA and municipal officials, visited housing construction sites in Walmer, Chatty, Joe Slovo, Soweto-on-Sea and KwaNobuhle.

“We visited these sites to evaluate the work done by the HDA . . . before seeing the report,” Bhanga said.

“The aim was also to evaluate the progress to make sure the houses are a good standard and there is no shoddy work done.

“I am happy to report the houses are of a good quality. However, there are infrastructure and sanitation connection problems.”
