Penguin release case postponed

The case against two men accused of taking Bayworld African penguin Buddy was postponed in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Representing both men, Advocate Hannelie Bakker told the court she had made representations to the Director of Public Prosecutions in Grahamstown for the matter to be diverted.

She said the students were still waiting for their exam timetables from NMMU and could possibly be writing an exam on the next appearance date.

Magistrate Sanjani Naidoo said if they were unable to attend, a warrant of arrest would be authorised, but not issued. It would stand over until their next scheduled appearance, on December 13, she said.
