Improved services, governance urged

Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle has told mayors, MECs and heads of department communities are fed up with the lack of government services, and that delivery must be speeded up.

He was speaking at the premier’s coordinating forum in Bhisho yesterday.

Municipalities were asked to spend conditional grants allocated to them.

The auditor-general’s office urged the new mayors to ensure clean governance and curb acts of irregular and improper conduct.

They were also told municipalities had to recruit qualified and competent managers.
