Shootout between municipal security and suspected robbers leave two dead

A late night shootout between a municipal security escort assigned to protect working refuse collection staff has left one municipal official and a suspected robber dead.
The incident happened at about 8:30pm on Sunday night.
The shootout occurred after a group of four suspected robbers attempted to steal the firearms of the two municipal officials who were escorting the refuse truck in Motherwell.
Three of the robbers escaped and are being sought by police.
Details remain sketchy and police are still investigating if the shootout was linked to a robbery or the on-going refuse worker feud between the municipality and workers.
