Bethelsdorp school calls parents meeting

THE parents of Bethelsdorp Senior Secondary School pupils have been called to attend an urgent meeting tonight in a bid to resolve the ongoing education crisis in the northern areas.

School spokesman Naeem Lagardien said school staff wanted to get parents’ views on the schools shutdown, now in its third week.

The school is worried about the impact on the matrics.

Schools in the northern areas have been shut since last month in protest against a myriad of grievances, including crippling teacher shortages.

Last year’s matrics in the area recorded a 20 percentage point drop from the previous year, largely attributed to similar protest action that lasted weeks.

“We want all parents to come to the meeting so we can hear their views on the current situation,” Lagardien said.
