Livingstone nightmare recalled
Desperately ill woman’s pleas for help fell on deaf ears
NURSES at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth allegedly left a desperately ill woman to lie in a bed soaked in her own urine and blood for two days, despite her pleas for help.
This is contained in a five-page sworn statement written by Dorothy Reber, 63, of North End.
“I have never experienced so much hatred from people in my life,” she said.
The hospital staff also allegedly mocked and refused to bath Reber, who volunteers at an animal charity shop in Walmer.
“I was at their mercy and I reckon in prison I would have received better treatment than I had from the staff at Livingstone Hospital.”
Today, she is at home but has to return to the hospital frequently for consultations and medicine.
