Drive to help the needy

NELSON Mandela Bay car clubs are shifting their focus from tailpipes and shiny rims to blankets and old clothes as they gear up to collect winter clothing to give to the needy through their monthly park-off events.

One of the metro's biggest car clubs, Mainstream Crew, has decided to use the upcoming park-off on Sunday as the start of its drive to collect winter woollies for a children's charity it has yet to decide on.

The club has the support of Autosport in North End, which has already agreed to donate 50 blankets. The park-offs – during which car clubs meet to display the latest trends and show off their cars – became an organised event in 2012. - Tremaine van Aardt
