Ramaphosa in dramatic comeback

ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday completed a dramatic political comeback when he was sworn in as deputy president of the country.

He also announced plans to merge his investment holding company, Shanduka, with Pembani, with the aim of leaving to avoid a conflict of interest.

The group will be worth R13.5-billion.

Ramaphosa, whose political involvement was limited to participation in the ANC's national executive, has replaced Kgalema Motlanthe as deputy president.

Ramaphosa, a former trade unionist and one of the chief negotiators during the Convention for a Democratic South Africa, was previously earmarked to be deputy president by then president Nelson Mandela - George Matlala
