Family's desperate bid to get treatment for kidney sufferer

CHRONIC kidney disease sufferer Brendon Keyter could barely breathe and was throwing up blood but he survived for 13 days until his family could get help for him.

This is how Amanda Strauss, the mother-in-law of Keyter, an unemployed man from Jeffreys Bay, described their nightmare two weeks after he was removed from Livingstone Hospital's renal programme for not complying with the rules.

Keyter suffered desperately for two weeks until his family could get money together to pay for his private dialysis.

Last night, however, the hospital's chief executive officer Dr Kobus Kotze said through Health Department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo that they had no record of Keyter being removed from the dialysis programme, contradicting an earlier response - Estelle Ellis
